Measurement: Difference between revisions

Measurements are organized and stored in Layers.

What is measurable?

You can measure any type of 3D data and 2D plans that are visualized.

What measurement tools are available?

Distance Measurement

A Distance Measurement is a measurement of the shortest path between a specified start- and endpoint.

How to create a `Distance Measurement`?

Choose the Distance measurement tool
Click the Left-Mouse-Button to select a Start / End point in the model or the plan data
Select the desired Layer from the list in which the measurement is to be stored
Now you can start the next measurement or store the measurement

How to store a `Measurement`?

After the measurement has been finished, a number (Number of currently not stored measurements) appears next to the measurement symbol at the top left corner.

Open the Measurement
Click on the Red Dialog
A popup appears, select Save changes to store the measurements

How to change a `Distance Measurement`?

A measurement that has not been stored:

As long as the Measurment is not stored, the measurement can be adjusted at both points. You can also select other measurements at this point and edit them.

To move one measure point, hold down the Left-Mouse-Button and move the point to the desired place

A measurement that has already been stored:

Enter the Edit-Measurement tool
Click on the desired Measurement to be modified
Modify and Store

How to delete a `Measurement`?

Enter the Edit-Measurement tool
Click on the Measurement you want to delete
The Measurement becomes red and is ready to delete
Press the Delete button on your keyboard or click on the bin

or

Select the desired measurement in the Navigation Pane
Click the Right-Mouse-Button to get into the Context menu
Press the Delete button

How to move a measurement from one `Layer` to another?

Select the measurement you want to move within the Navigation Pane
Drag and Drop the desired measurement to the other Layer

or

Go into Edit mode
Select the measurement you want to move to another Layer
Select the desired Layer
Finish and store the measurement

Polyline Measurement

A Polyline Measurement is a measurement of the shortest path along a selection of specified points.

It shows the distance between two or more points. (XYZ axis)

How to create a `Polyline Measurement`?

Choose the Polyline measurement tool
Select the wanted points in the model or the plan data
Select the desired Layer from the list in which the measurement is to be stored
Click on the Finish button
Now you can start the next measurement or store the measurement

Vertical Measurment

A Vertical Measurement is a measurement of the height difference between two specified points.

How to do a `Vertical Measurement`?

Choose the Vertical measurement tool
Click the Left-Mouse-Button to select the point on the top and anywhere on the floor in the model
Select the desired Layer from the list in which the measurement is to be stored
Now you can start the next measurement or store the measurement

Axis Aligned Measurement

The Axis Aligned Measurement shows the distance on all axes between two points. (XYZ axis)

Click the Left-Mouse-Button to select the point on the top and anywhere on the floor in the model
Select the desired Layer from the list in which the measurement is to be stored
Now you can start the next measurement or store the measurement

Line Measurement

A Line Measurement is a measurement on a user-defined plane that calculates the distance between points of interest.

How to create a `Line Measurement`?

Choose the Line measurement tool
Select a Start / End point in the model or the plan data
By clicking on the red line between the Start / End point you can add further measure points on the line
Select the desired Layer from the list in which the measurement is to be stored
Click on the Finish button
Now you can start the next measurement or store the measurement

Area Measurement

The Area measurement is intended for area measurements on smooth planes. For example the floor or wall surfaces in buildings.

How to do a `Area Measurement`?

Choose the Area measurement tool
Draw a plane with at least 3 points in the model or the plan data
Select the desired Layer from the list in which the measurement is to be stored
Click on the Finish button
Now you can start the next measurement or store the measurement

Area Strip Measurement

An Area Strip Measurement allows you to measure the area of a triangulated surface.

How to create a `Area Strip Measurement`?

Choose the Area Strip measurement tool
Draw a triangle with 3 points in the model
For a second triangle you need to select a 4th point. This second triangle is created with point 2, 3 and 4 and so on
Select the desired Layer from the list in which the measurement is to be stored
Click on the Finish button
Now you can start the next measurement or store the measurement

A measurement that has not been stored:

To remove a point on the Area Strip Measurement, click with the Left-Mouse-Button on the blue point you want to remove
To move one point, hold down the Left-Mouse-Button and move the point to the desired place

Adding another triangle to an Area Strip Measurement is not possible at the moment!

Volume Measurement

A Volume Measurement refers to the process of determining the amount of space occupied by a three-dimensional object.

What types of `Volume` calculation options are available?

Volume calculation based on:

Best Fit Surface (default calculation type) Creates an optimized triangulated surface from the drawn points.
Height Calculates the volume above the defined height.
Point Clouds Difference Calculates the volume between two sets of point clouds.

How to create a `Volume Measurement` based on `Best Fit Surface`?

Choose the Volume measurement tool
Select at least 3 points on the Point Cloud to indicate the area to be measured
Now you are able to calculate the Volume by pressing the Calculate Volume button (wait for the message Calculating Volume succeeded)
Press the Finish button

or

Go to Storage Location in the volume menu
Select the desired Layer from the list in which the measurement is to be stored
Click on the Finish button
Now you can start the next measurement or store the measurement

How to create a `Volume Measurement` based on `Height`?

Choose the Volume measurement tool
Select at least 3 points on the Point Cloud to indicate the area to be measured
Go to Calculation Type in the volume menu
Open the drop down menu and choose based on Height
You can manually enter the height

or

Click Left-Mouse-Button on the desired point within the point cloud
The height of the selected point is automatically adopted
Now you are able to calculate the volume by pressing the Calculate Volume button
The result is saved in the last layer used when storing the Measurement

or

Enter Storage Location
Select the desired Layer from the list in which the measurement is to be stored
Click on the Finish button
Now you can start the next measurement or store the measurement

How to create a `Volume Measurement` based on `Point Clouds Difference`?

Activate at least 2 point clouds within the Navigation Pane
Choose the Volume measurement tool
Select at least 3 points on the Point Cloud to indicate the area to be measured
Go to Calculation Type in the volume menu
Open the drop down menu and choose Point Clouds Difference
In the list, which shows all active point clouds, assign point clouds to the two groups by clicking on the group number (group 1 is the Surface Point Cloud and group 2 the Base Point Cloud)
Press the Calculate Volume button
Press the Finish button
Now you can start the next measurement or store the measurement

To remove a point of the Calculation Area, click with the Left-Mouse-Button on the blue point you want to remove
To move one point, hold down the Left-Mouse-Button and move the point to the desired place

Enter the Edit-Measurement tool
Click on the desired Measurement to be modified
Check whether you are in the correct step of the volume calculation
